Very topical cooperman! .... my Defender came to me from an old REME man who'd refurbished everything and fitted a galvanised chassis ........ then plonked the old farm body back on top as it was .... suited me at the time as I was giving it rough useage and was happy to not be worried by fancy paint .... fast forward 15 years and the now 30 year old bodywork was getting well past it's best ... have just spent a trying few days pulling off the rear tub and sorting the mess where the steel cross-braces crossed the aluminium stringers ... nowt left of the ali where they touched and the steel was beyond crispy .... after a couple of days of cracked knuckles, rusted/seized/sheared bolts and cascades of mud every time anything was touched the tub is refitted with all the corroded ali cut out and plated, a good soaking with black waxoyl and new galvanised crossbraces .... should be good for another few years ... by which time I might have forgotten what a pain it was!! 🙂

K - I am so sorry, I did not see this before we went off after seeing Stephen888 in his plus 8 this morning . We tried to bypass Faaker See and go to swim in Wortersee near Velden.
Velden is a smart town on the lake. It was rammed with bikes 99.8% Harleys . Stephen had saidi he could not stop at a beauty spot near us because there were 50 bikes in the small pull in ! As a non biker but a lover of chrome, I wish I could express in words how fantastic the town looked, decked in everything Harley. A beautiful sunny day with the chrome shinning in the sun, the sounds of the bikes ‘promenading’ through the town. It was a fantastic sight . My wife really enjoyed it but the I photo is pants and the mini video won’t load to tm.
I would go back especially to take photos for you but tomorrow and Thursday as scheduled for rain . It won’t dampen their fun but would mine.
To see everyone enjoying the day was special .

Yesterday the weather was ‘pants’ but manageable for those at bike week. Inside the food and drink venues and there are many , pop out when the rain stopped but many of the bikers staying near us on the Slovenia side of the border pass did not drive over . Today it has been thundering and biblical rain as forecast by the bbc and sadly they will probably have to stay in the enormous tented beer gardens and make the most of it. The bikes & chrome will need a lot of polishing when they get home !
I had an e mail from Stephen888 who with no hood or side screens on his plus8 is in the same storm in Croatia. .i just hope it is on one of his two day stopovers and not a travelling day. Storms in the mountains normally happen overnight and in the morning it’s dry, today is not one of those. but Saturday, bike parade day is forecast sun !
There was nowhere to park in Velden as it was all bikes, so it was a drive by one handed phone shot, of a special long tailed Harley that missed most of it and Gills bad video for some reason won’t go on Tm-img .
