I think that what you have said could be very relevant Cereal, but I also agree with Simon about Morgan marketing. It always comes across to me as being very tactical rather than strategic and long-term. Just my own 2-cents worth.

I like the new logo!

Would I have chosen it myself? Not sure.
Did I really want a change? Not really, didnt even think about it.
Do I think its appropriate? Maybe.

However for me its all part of moving on. And sometime whether now or later this may happen. Maybe the time isnt right; but when would it be?

All IMHO of course.

Now all you harbingers of doom and residents of the past ("in my day we used to have to get up in t'morning before we went to bed..."), if you dont like it, keep buying the older cars, there will be plenty around for a long time.

Of course you are right. I regret putting up the new logo and program info up on eMog and here so soon as the reaction on other dgs feeding has been virulent and likely warranted. I only get that stuff second hand and too late to re-inform with fact to prevent damaging conjecture.

I was thinking about this whole thing in bed at 06.30 this morning (what else would you be doing)! It struck me that there was an air of 'linch mob' about the reaction so far. How would Charles or Mathew reading this thread and the discussions on Mogtalk (and no doubt EMog) react? It occurs to me that they have been called to court, trialled by jury, sentenced and executed without any defense.

They are said to be not bothering to listen to the traditional Morgan buyer - is it any wonder when they react in the manner seen over the last couple of days.

At this point I do not have the background information to make an informed opinion about the new logo. However there is a great danger that the negative and in some cases childish reactions (I'm not buying a Morgan ever again = I'm taking my teddy bear home and dont want to play with you again) have damaged the realionship. And in this case it is the Morgan community that is doing the damage.

I also think it interesting that it was only the people with a 'trad' background who were really contributing. That says something as well.

Thing is it's interesting when the punters actualyl care about the logo. E.g. I was involved in implementing the recent Visa logo change when I worked there (until recently). Several hundred million (rumoured billions) spent on teh change. Has anyone really noticed? Certainly nobody got hot under the collar about it and it's one of the most recognised symbols worldwide regardless of culture. Yet change the morgan logo a little (I'm dammned if I can see the difference to be honest - it still says Morgan and there are wings - thats good enough for me!)

Storm in a teacup, and I guess (if I was being disingenuous) that some trad buyers are lacking something to do with their days iff they think this is worth getting worked up about....

I spoke to a chap from the factory last night at the RTCC Roadster Mk2 launch who when quized said that it was a brand consolidation exercise.

Personaly I've never noticed... but apparently there are several set's of Wing's logo's that the factory use. Differing depending on the medium they are applied to... vehicle, paper branding, business cards, t-shirts and apparel.. etc.

Anyhow... it seems that the drive was to formally consolidate to a single logo for all purposes.... and it seems whilst they were at it.. it was decided that the logo should have a slight facelift.

It's not a million miles away from the old logo.. and TBH.. it would not be the first manufacturer to do this... so I'm personally not all that bothered.

Yes, interesting, but probably not surprising. Surely, by the very nature of the cars, 'Classic' owners are more concerned with looks, and 'Aero' owners more with performance? I would expect more 'Aero' owners to pick up on a rumour that the cars were to be made heavier, and/or with less power.

In fact, I thought we had reached a general consensus earlier that genuine, constructive feedback was a good thing - Coke could have saved themselves a few bob had they bothered to do a bit of market research before changing their 'Classic'. Surely the suggestion isn't that only positive comments can be posted?

Manufacturers have the absolute right to dismiss any feedback. To be offended by genuine comments from their customers could, in turn however be considered as petulant?

As to change, yes, it can be good, but some things are just 'right' as they are - I've yet to see a better looking electric guitar than the original 'Strat'. Change for the sake of it can leave us worse off.

Agreed. (BTW. the general reaction on emog was similar to here...regret and deep confusion but no ongoing nastiness.)

Of course, this was not a business decision. But it IS consistent with the other changes we have seen in the last few years. Whatever the reasons, there is apparently an urgent need within today's MMC to distance itself from its past. We should expect more.

I just hope they don't replace the bangers and mash at the MMC canteen with sushi!!
