Greetings,
I am new to the forum, so feeling my way a bit.
I have a problem with my 2004 Plus 8 that I am hoping someone will be able to assist with.
The first occasion, the fan kept running and running until I disconnected. Without thinking too much assumed it was the thermostat switch in the radiator and replaced. On reconnection, the fan immediately restarted. (Engine dead cold). With a bit more thinking this time, replaced the relay. Problem fixed - but only temporarily. Problem reoccurred. Tried a new relay. Problem fixed - but only temporarily.
Latest occasion, took out the relay and replaced with one of my early rejects - fan stopped. Took out that relay and replaced with the first - fan restarted. That relay was quite warm - a bit more than I would expect from just being in the engine bay.
All the relays are 30 amp which I would think should be ample.
Any ideas?

Reach up to the sun and turn it down a bit, it is far to hot in New Zealand

Had a similar thing happen to me in 2002 +8 it was the relay that is on the drivers side bulhead {on rhd cars] just above the steering column.

If the relay is warm, I would check the contacts on the base to ensure that there is not a high resistance contact. Removing the relay and replacing, may temporarily solve the problem but as the fan draws quite a heavy current, then the problem will come back. I would also check the stat to make sure that it is operating correctly.

The electric fan may be worn out. They begin to draw too much current sometimes when they wear and that could cause the relay points to fuse.

My guess is that you have a seperate switch fitted so that you can start cooling before the rad temp unit kicks in.
Most +8s are fitted with one after market because most +8 owners get paranoid about temperature.
Radiator is too small so too hot in summer traffic jams.
change rad for aluminium and its too cold in winter.
The switch is often mounted behind dash ,maybe pull down knob.

The summer in NZ hasn't been brilliant, so more likely a need to turn up the sun a bit.

The original relay was Bosch, should have been an OK quality.
Replaced with relays from the local auto supply store. Quality of those could be more suspect.
But the same problem with all 3 relays?
