Following on from recent posts, this is how they look apart. Mine (2005) has neoprene gaskets. (Who'd have thought it), but there are two types. Black or grey.
Without gasket. The little slot at the base aligns the plastic cover. No sign of wet in these.

With gasket.

Internal reflector.

All the components. Note that the lamp unit has a neoprene backing seal.

Nice Clear photos Dave thumbs .

With the neoprene gaskets, it is a wonder how much water managed to get into my offside lamp.

Now I am beginning to wonder, Does Dave keep a new spare part for everything?

Nice photos!

Despite the gaskets, water ingress seems to be a recurrent problem. My front indicator lamps had corrugated so badly that I had to order new front indicator lamps. They shall be fitted after Easter. Hopefully these will last longer than the factory fitted ones. This time around I'll go for drainage holes. Whatever happens the car is used rain or shine!

No Sukram they came with the new lamps. It would be simple enough to knock some up. I might give that a go and see how they look!

Frank. I keep a few spares from various suppliers, being of the OCD disposition. A friend with a BGTV8 in the seventies collected nearly enough spares to build another car, including wheels, gearbox, axle etc etc.

There are two types of thread, so don't assume interchangeability of fasteners. The brass top hats come out from behind the lamp unit.

If I may be so bold as to dare to add to one of Dave's posts, when I changed the lenses on my car from orange to clear, obtained via BHM, I used a smear of Vaseline around the inside of the holder. This seems to have helped to keep the damp out.

Here for a good time not a long time!!
