I was born in 1951 and I think there was no Visa logo in 1970 but BankAmericard. I presume this was just a test confused2

No..no test. Founders.

What is now Visa was born in 1958 with the Bank of America. It's logo was/is blue, white and gold colors with BankAmericard on it. Ten years later, the Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank, the Toronto Dominion Bank and Banque Canadienne National formed CHARGEX Ltd. through a license from BankAmeriCard. Same colors and format for the card, only CHARGEX on it.

In 1974, all the Bank of America's international licensees chartered an international company, IBANCO, to administer BankAmeriCard, Inc. outside the U.S. The card name was changed to VISA to make it palatable internationally. Its success is legendary.

Outside the removal of the bank names within the colors, the symbol has not changed. In fact, the card colors became the symbol..which is not uncommon.

Thanks lorne for the potted history (and Visa update!). Of course you are right - it was chargex first smile

Reading your posts in detail I'm beginning to understand that the logo change 'per-se' isn't the key issue that is raising conccern in some people. Seems that the fear is that the Trad's days may be numbered (somehow) and therefore every small decision the company is making is either reinforcing (or otherwise) this concern.

That certainly explains to me the depth of feeling involved.

In the end MMC will do what MMC thinks is best for the business. I hope they get it right, but I'm not going to tell them what to do as I have no experience of the car building game, and the last 'expert' who gave them advice wasn't exactly listened to anyway......

Morgan will have to come up with a model of some sort to underpin the Aero and be the benchmark for sales. I guess we just have to wait and see what that might be.

As for the lifecar, I just hope it isn't this that they are banking on!

Hush! smile

They are VERY enthusiastic about it. Future of the company and all that.

They will debut the proto-type at the Geneva Show in early 2008. I believe it left for work and tests last week.

Hi Brian,

Nice to see you here. It is not as grumpy here but I assume there are similar discussions in others groups as well. Many Morgan drivers are not used to changes, maybe some drive Morgans because they don't want changes. If Morgan changed the wings as often as Visa changed their longos we would not have this thread.

Enjoy Talk Morgan,

Roderich

Phil,

Are you suggesting (albeit gently) that the new wings indicate a 5-wheeler is coming. shocked2 grin2

Actually, in truth, HFS's sister once mentioned that he had a different mark for the bicycle business. If they add a 5th wheel now after 72 years, tradition will be served with the new wings.

Hmm. Methinks you're nit-picking (can't spell provaricating... see).

Truth is it would seem that the logo since 1909 has changed on numerous occasions (3 & 4 wheels) albeit the last one a little while back, I think a "slight change" is what you said Lorne.

As far as I am concerned this change is also only slight modernisation (subjective I accept) as we still have wings (2 no.) still have Morgan inscribed in the middle and still have same colouring and proportionality.

Realistically for most people, non-Mog enthusiasts especially, what makes the logo recognisable for what it is, is the word within the wings.

That word could be Morgan, Panther, Mini or 'B', they all have similar logos (and I am sure there are others).

But then this isn't really just about a logo is it? Its about a long-standing campaign against CM & MMC because we don't like what they're doing.

Which by the way I think anyone has a right to express their opinion about here and wherever they feel fit. I just like to know what I am debating against.

BtG

Cheers
