Does anyone know what the legal situation is regarding two-eared, knock on wheel nuts on cars visiting France? The other day, I glanced at an article in another marque's magazine which told of the owner of a car fitted with these facing the possible impounding of the car in Spain.

Hi There is a thread on the Tr register site.They all say that they are legal on U.K. registered cars.Also there are alot of French classics still running on them.
There will be more posts but more experienced members.

As I had ordered the two-eared wheel nuts for my soon to come 4/4, I informed myself about the legal situation in Austria. (All that follows now is valid for new cars. Oldtimers are excepted.) They are not legal on the 4/4 but are on cars with wider wheels as the spinners don't protrude from those wider wheels.  (When I come so close to a pedestrant that my spinners hurt him, the chance is great that I already ran him over... ) Also the wood rimmed Moto-Lita is not road-legal on new cars. The danger of severe injuries is too big, says the EU. Yeah, sure, but motorcycles are still legal, so what?!? My car will nevertheless be equipped with both, as far as I know the police does not care on a Morgan, they want to talk about the car not check all parts and bits. They will check on baseball-capped dicks in their spoiler-covered Golfs not nice lads in proper british motors.

Largely true in the UK too. I remember a VW Golf being stopped in Edinburgh for a blowing exhaust and the upset look on the owners face as I drove past the incident and the police were not interested - my Morgan was far noisier!

They are perfectly ok in france as an aftermarket accessory. Indeed all the classic models supplied new by Morgan France come with 2 eared spinners and a moto lita wheel fitted as standard extras.

Never heard that such spinners and wood rimmed wheel are illegal in France. I confirme that Morgan France supplies Trads with such equipments.

Is there a choice of wheel nuts on new cars? If so I suspect that the two eared variety will be a cost option. I'd be grateful if someone can confirm this.
