Any info out there on the spare tire filler panels? I'm looking to either buy or fabricate something like this for the '66 +4 I'm rebuilding / customizing:  Seeing as I'll still be putting the luggage rack on top, it's probably better that I make one instead of hack up an original. Any info on dimensions, mounting, etc?

When I re-build my 69 4/4 I have been thinking of having a spare wheel cover made by having one spun out of Aluminium to fit the shape of the wheel. These were not uncommon in the 50's on various vehicles (Tickford Coach built Land Rovers had them) and look quite nice on a vintage looking vehicle when painted body colour.
Anyone already done this?

If you look at Cerealsurfers latest postings, you will see the mounting tabs for the cover on his car. This car was in the trim shop last week...not quite sure what it is with its Plus8 alloy wheels but it clearly is having a removable cover fitted to the spare wheel well...you can see mounting holes around the perimeter of the aperture. So i guess that the factory are still making removable covers.

Vintage sheet metal make them off the peg.
Vents are for allowing any vapour to escape and to maintain airflow through the rear deck where a vacuum can occur at speed.

Ah! Ok thanks. So if one made/ commissioned a lid/ cover one would vent it in some way. Excellent.

Jays - Thanks for pointing the mounting holes out. Not sure how I feel about putting extra holes in my rear panel, though I can think of a few other ways of getting a custom-made panel to fit snug against the rear panel without drilling

The Vintage Sheet Metal pannels don't use holes in the body work they use mounting brackets on the wood-work as can be seen here:
