Noticing an ominous-looking daylight gap at the corners of the windscreen of my Roadster, I wondered whether Dum-Dum putty - which we used to use in our bodyshop for just such purposes - was still available. It appears not. In the good ole' days of British Leyland we used to use pounds of the stuff!

Does anyone know of a suitable alternative (I don't want to get anything silicone-derived anywhere near my bodywork)?

Vincent, yes the good old days of Dum Dum, i have only seen it at bootsales in recent years, there are many PUR sealers out there, few that dont really affect the body work, take a look on this site www.soudal.com i can't guarantee you will find what your looking for, but it might be a good guide, if you require a TDS on any of the products PM me, i will try and help

This might work

The unavailability of dum dum must have been a major factor in Land Rover deciding to cease Defender production..... laugh2

Thanks Easter - that looks like it might do the trick! To quote from Woolies website

Quote:
Dum Dum putty has been unobtainable since mid 2010, this product has been recommended to us by the manufacturer of Dum Dum as the closest replacement currently available

In the early 80s when Land Rover built the first 4 door Range Rovers; there was a joke at the factory that the test of the quality of the door fit was as follows:

1 Sit either Tom Barton or Ron Phillips in the back of the car (both legendary LR Directors & both short of stature)

2 If they didn't fall out through the gap with the door shut, then it was OK
