Greetings all,

when I bought my Mog about a year ago I noticed that the edge of the leather trim by the door lock was wearing quite a bit.

Well, with the passage of time it has got considerably worse, to the extent that the underlying plywood was also becoming damaged.





Now, I may venture that I always get into the car backside first as I find this is much easier on my chronic bad back, and I exit the vehicle in the reverse.......both feet first and backside last.

The problem as I see it is that the plywood with its leather covering is entirely unsupported in the area of the lock and vulnerable to friction on the edge from my right hip.
I might add at this point that any reference to the size of my backside will not be entertained. Being six three my height and lack of flexibility is the problem not my girth!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Do later cars have a more substantial thickness of plywood?....on my '75 it is only about 3-4mm.

I have a similar protector & it works well

I have similar, but not from MMC. Think it was Heart of England.

Heart of England do a nice polished stainless edge trim to cover this.
I have them fitted to my 4/4 and they look good in place.
They do, however, only cover the edge and don't go back very far onto the trim panel.
From you pic I am not sure if they wwould cover the worn area.
A call to HoE with measurements would resolve that question.

I fitted them by loosening the panel screws to slide them over the edge and re-tightening the screws. They are held firmly in place

Yours must be a better profile than mine which constantly come away at the bottom, one of my friends has a much better product with small lugs which take the quarter panel screws and are held firmly in place. Trouble is he can't remember where he got them!

The ones from the factory, as fitted to the +4SS work superbly. PS Height not a problem, flexibility not a problem, but the backside has the potential to cause all sorts of carnage!

This protector has been highly recommended by Metal Micky. I find this is a point at which I always make contact getting in and out of the car so it goes on my list of extras to be fitted.

If fitting the protectors from H of E, I found it a benefit to file the edge down at each screw position to let in the screw washer. Made for a better fit in that the edge of the panel goes fully into the Stainless edge protector. When I did that it stayed put at both the bottom and the top. It works very well.
