Have no knowledge of, and don't dispute that at all. My entirely selfish interest is in the 'Trad' hood.

Would have thought that 70 years or so should be enough to get it right, but my first convertible, so nothing to compare it to. Do any others leak?

Paul,

My first +8 (1991) didn't leak at all.
My second +8 had a lot of leaks. The hood was NOT one of them.

After a few years water (just drops) came inside (between windscreen and hood) both cars when I was driving fast.

Third car (4/4 with trad hood) same experience.

Tourer: Of course more screens, more gaps, more water. The part of the new hood on top of the windscreen was a problem but my dealer fitted a rubber sealing inside the hood frame and the problem was gone.

Thanks Roderich - I'll add the problem to BHM's 'to do' list...

Hello

You boys really are getting bent out of shape over a set of wings. A fine looking lady I could understand but a badge on a set of wheels

You all need to get out more

New wings don't bother me. Less traditional but they are not exactly radical enough to worry.

Michael

I couldn't agree more. The fact that there is now a thread entitled "I am bored" is an indication of how great a need there is to get out more. The obsessive predisposition to constantly criticize CM and MMC beggars belief. A consumer has a simple remedy if they are unhappy with a manufacturer.....they don't buy the product.
Peter Morgan is quoted as saying, “there are more reasons for not buying a Morgan than for buying one”. Morgan cars are what they are and that is what makes them special. The MMC does things in its own way and that is what makes it special. Where else can you wander freely around a factory and talk to craftsmen as they carry out their trade? How many Companies are there that would allow its factory to be brought to a standstill by an invasion of Belgian visitors’ intent on seeing the marvel that is MMC? The overwhelming majority of Morgan owners love their cars and accept they are not perfect. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the imperfections the cars are one hell of a drive. I'm now approaching two years of ownership and my only regret about buying one is that I did not buy it sooner. The day MMC starts using management-speak, employs smart-arsed marketing consultants and introduces fancy yet transient control systems the magic of the Company will be lost. If you can't accept the cars for what they are then buy a Porsche or Mercedes or whatever.
So the Company has updated its logo? The result?..... hysterical squeals of derision and criticism. It announces its website is to be updated which produces another opportunity to criticize for not having acted sooner. What do you people want? You’re clearly so bored that you have to create controversy.
And for the record, do I like the logo?…Yes! It complements both the Aero and the Life Car project (which I hope comes to fruition). Will it spoil the look of a trad? Of course not, and anyway, MMC haven’t said it will be fitted to trad models. Perhaps MMC will surprise you all by retaining the present logo for the trad cars and using the new logo on its contemporary range. Whatever it decides just accept that it is their decision to make just as it is your decision which car you buy.

So what do you suggest Ken? No posts allowed and no comments expressed unless they are in full and total support of MMC? Surely there is a place here for individual views – I don’t remember the box on the contract that precluded me from having any opinion of my own post purchase.

A fully sycophantic TM would certainly be a less lively place to visit, and if we all agreed on every point that surely would result in a very boring place indeed.

I do agree, Paul!

A customer has more than one choice (exit) to react. Albert O. Hirschmann described it quite good in 'Exit, Voice and Loyalty: Responses to decline in firms, organizations and states, 1970.'

Whilst I cant agree with the "...need to get out more." comments I must say I thoroughly concur with most of that said above.

I would add that I also agree with Paul Hursts comment that we must still be allowed, and nigh on encouraged, to post our opinions whichever side of the argument (any argument) they fall on.

I think though its the 'knocking' that gets on peoples nerves. Ie to post "I think the logo is not befitting a company with the tradition that Morgan has" will/should always be acceptable, it is the "typical MMC/CM acting unprofessionally not honouring tradition..." that grates. (The previous two examples were of course 'made up' quotes to ensure my point is made reasonably clearly.)

I can only assume, and its certainly the case from my end, that passion and emotion sometime get the better of us!

PS Hope I haven't upset anyone this time hide smile

Cheers

Ken, First of All welcome to Talk Morgan.

Although this Forum is predominently 'Aero' biased at the moment certain 'Sub Sections' are begining to make their Mark; unfortunately you have decided to 'post' on a subject that covers more than just changing a Logo.

I again, with apologies to other members, have to 'Declare my Interest' being a Morgan Owner since the 60's and therefore putting me firmly in the pre 'CM' era. I have also been a MSCC Center Secretary in my time and therefore attended NCM when Representatives of MMC were present to 'Advise Developments' at factory level.

All this is now in the past and the main worry of the majority of Morgan Owners is what is really going on at Morgans! The Logo is just another indication of far greater things to come in 2010. The lack of communication between the factory and the MSCC when 'CM' is the President of the MSCC is particularly worrying to many.

No one would deny the right of MMC to run it's company for profit, but like the 'infamous' television programme which set out to advise how the company should be run; it has forgotten that it's fortunes and the longevity of it's core Dealers is due to a committed and loyal customer base. Look at at the current re - sale prices and age of Aeros' as they don't meet with the expectatations of 'Porsche' et al owners. With certain notable exceptions!

I still ask the question after all these years; my wife even more so. Why did I pay 35k for a car that leaks when it rains? Requires constant vigilance in case something comes loose. Requires me to make constant trips to the cleaners and so it goes on. Yet I and many, many others feel strongly enough about our 'Mogs' to feel a tie with the car and the 'factory'.

I have had the privalege of meeting Peter Morgan on two occassions and a 'true gentleman'; the first time I was pecunious twenty year old with a 'Worst for Wear' Series 11. Yet he treated me as if I was his most valuable customer; I was looking for some 'Second Hand' parts and that needed his personal permission. A 'Gentleman' yes; but he knew who paid for his Ferrari at the end of the day.

MMC is free to do what it likes, that goes with out saying but they should not disregard the views of their 'core' customers otherwise the 'Cash Cow' will 'Dry Up' and Morgans will then truly become 'Classic Cars' - admired by many, but affordable to the few. We are already seeing a dearth of 'pre - loved' cars in the Dealers because of the current uncertainty as to what is happening at Malvern.

Robert I must disagree with you here. redcard

As a current member of the NCM I am pleased that communication between 'CM' and the MSCC has been 'flowing' of late in part down to the efforts of Pter Johnson (the current chairman) but also due to a will on the part of the 'management'. If you open your latest copy of Miscellany you will see CM sat for dinner at the recent MOG.

I can also say that Mathew Parkin and his team are being very helpfull to us at the forthcoming Classic Motor Show.

The Aero 8 Club is now also fully affiliated to the MSCC. Something that Charles was very supportive of.

Maybe we (in the MSCC) are guilty of not communicating this better thumbs

Certainly have not upset me, Boshly old chap; I respect others' rights to hold views, and fully expect to have to justify my own in as lucid a fashion as am able. In fact, a good and well argued mental ‘ruck’ can be quite invigorating!

I promise to always try to debate without recourse to ‘ad hominem’ arguments, and will avoid at all time any squealing – “hysterical” or otherwise!
