My 2004 +4 has the modern side screens, they flex quite a lot when travelling at 60/70 mph. I recall my 1988 4/4 had side screens that were much stiffer. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix? All the best Tony

Hi Tony, elsewhere on this forum the flexing of the side screens at speed was mentioned before. Gentle bending was suggested. If I had the issue I personally would take it to a dealer as I would probably break it attempting to bend it.

Ithink the issue really is that when travelling with the hood up, once you get to about 60MPH or 100 Kph the screens are "Sucked" outwards. OK if it's dry, but a great source of water if it's pi**ing it down!! I do know in the past people devised all sorts of solutions to "attach" the screen to the upright of the screen, but this would be v.difficult with the newer uprights.
I think some sort of turnbuckle arrangement is required -- I am trying to envisage this and will continue to exercise the grey cells until I've solved it -- that is unless someone else has the bright idea first!!!
I know that keeping the hood down is the best solution, but in the current weather pattern here in Ireland that is just not on!!!!
Cheers!

I have used velcro and it makes a difference but it doesn't totally cure the problem. Don.

I have thought about this off and on, and for me the main problem with any mechanical link like a turnbuckle is that one would forget they were there when one opened the door.
One option which I haven't done anything about might be to make up some small brackets, 2 on the top corners of the door top, one on the top of the inner windscreen draught excluder, and one attached to the hood box somehow. Each bracket would carry one of those high-strength neodymium magnets, so that when the door is shut the magnets line up an clamp together
I need one of those Round Tuits, though...

I've just been out to look at my car; which has been vastly better since the Factory replaced my aged and tatty Easy Up hood. Now, I am not sure whether they made any adjsutment to the sidescreen, but the hood flap over the window is more subsatntial than it was. From the hood seam to the bottom edge is 75mm and from the top of the sidescreen to the bottom edge is 50mm. This results in the hood flap exerting slight pressure against the top of the sidescreen. (Measurable by trying to move the sidescreen top outward, with the hood in place, compared with the hood retracted).

With our new car, Easy Up hood, we have not noticed any problem. The side screen seems to push well in towards the windscreen pillars. It may simply be a matter of adjusting the bend in the brackets.

Has somebody ever thought of a tension cable/strip from the screen frame to the inner side of the door?

I too would like to increase the inward force holding the sidescreen to the upright, as they tend to chatter in and out at speed. I think this can be done by slightly increasing the angle of the bend in the brackets. Has anyone done this, and can advise? It looks like I will have to partly disassemble each sidescreen by taking the vinyl side off first.
