I'm considering designing a tonneau for a 4 seater Mog.
The Ton.needs to not only cover the front cockpit with a Zip fastener between driver and pas. but also be adaptable to only cover the rear cockpit.
I plan to incorp. a pair of slots to fit and be secured by each head rest stem allowing the surplus ton. to drape down behind the front seats. the ton. could then be tensioned by adjusting the seat rake.

I plan to engage a local upholsterer
Does anyone have any views other than telling me I've lost my marbles.

don't wish to be rude, but I think you're reinventing the wheel.
lots of upholsterers make tonneau with 2 or 3 zips, and headrest slots, removeable back windows etc. I can't see anything new in what you're suggesting,
see/talk to sean at Allon White he's made most variations of tonneau.

Just to be picky, the tonneau is the open space where the seats are so hopefully you already have one of those . What you're after is a tonneau cover.

What you propose sounds exactly like the one that came with my 4-seater.

The slot idea so the head restraints tension the rear half is logical enopugh, but there is some movement in the seat backs which will prevent much tension. The MG solution was to fit two angle brackets - one on each hood pivot, then fit a bar between the two. The tonneau (cover) then drapes over the bar and can be secured in the footwells with lift the dots. This is easily do-able and it might even be possible to use the MG parts, with a bit of fettling.
When I created my half tonneau cover for my two seater which drops down over the back of the passenger seat so I can retain the hood cover, the tension provided by the passenger seat was nowhere near good enough, so I had to fit a fibreglass tent pole down the centre of the car to hold it firm.

I remember that from my MGB days and it worked very well.
