Wouldn't have had rubber 'tyres' when it rolled off the production line in 1920 but I wouldn't want to drive it on a metalled road without them nowadays!  i agree there, it would probably feel like a Morgan

There's more than a grain of truth there! In fact, the springing on the rear axle of the engine is pretty much the semi-elliptical set-up of a Trad, but mounted upside down.

two tribes will you be taking it to Berwick St John this year? We won't be going to Berwick St John even though it's fairly close to home. We always take the engine to Henham Park (Southwold, Suffolk) which is a lovely rally. Unfortunately, it's the same weekend in September.

Looks like a great little show (that's meant in a good way - the small ones are so much more enjoyable). Sadly we can't make August. Another time, I'd love to see how many 'Maxes we can get together for a show...

Why are they called "metalled roads" when there is no metal in them? It's sad, but I do know this one. The word 'metal' (from Greek metallon) originally meant any quarried or mined product such as rock or ore, though nowadays the common meaning is the refined end-product of an ore. There is a neat twist here because my engine worked most of its life hauling rocks from a quarry for road-building.
