Hood covers seem to be marginally controversial. Some folks like them and some don't. They will completely faux-pas a 'get the hood up in a hurry' theory. I think it's just something you'll have to see for yourself. Hope this helps.

Cheers.

The question maybe easy, but I am guessing that you are starting to discover that the answers can get quite complicated!

However, one of the beauties of Morgan ownership is that whilst (to the non-Morgan trained eye) they may all look similar, the chances of you ever seeing a car exactly like your own is very remote. "Vive la differance"

I had a hood cover with my last Roadster but never used it because of the extra hassle when erecting the hood. The down side was that the inside of the hood got filthy & I never managed to get it clean, so the intention this time is to use the cover & keep the hood clean. We'll see...

Neil, you may also find that if you fit a tonneau, you'll almost never use the hood unless you plan on driving the Morgan in very inclement weather. The tonneau I had with my Plus 4SS allowed you to zip the drivers side open and still cover the passenger side and rear of the Morgan. When in the garage, I zipped the driver side up and thus the interior was protected and kept clean. Just a thought. smile

Exactly right, Allon White fitted mine to lumbar and squab of each seat (so 4 mats in total) and the result is fantastic. A whole new driving experience in a Morgan! drive

Neilda,

What Shiremog is saying is right on the money. Also, having a hood cover is grand if you will spend a lot of time in the sun and hood down. With a stop to put the hood up, then there's hood-cover storage and all that goes with limited space motoring. I find I don't use the cover at all now. Used it twice through inexperience and novelty. I think it looks good when I take the time to arrange it properly but it's still a pain. Someone in a post on here a while back mentioned that the Morgan Classic is a Roadster in the true sense ie. an open-top car. This is very true and I wouldn't detract from that sentiment. Obviously folks have gone to great lenghts to manufacture any number of hood varients so that our cars are more usable and practical. Once again we're back to what suits us best. If you possibly can - go to a dealership or visit a friend with a car and ask if you can have a go at erecting the hood. If you're lucky you'll know folks with different types. Once you get to grips with that, then maybe imagine you're caught in a heavy downpour on a windy day at the side of the M6 with one arm tied behind your back and ....

Joking aside - you get the idea. Like most things 'Morgan', if you can possibly try it first, then it really helps with the decision process.

The tonneau that came with the new Roadster fits over the hood, so I thought at first that I'd have the best of both worlds, by folding the tonneau ( when not in use) down over the hood & into the luggage space, but in practice, I haven't found a way of folding the tonneau that doesn’t foul the seat belts :-(

Ah! there is a post on that here .

You fold in the corners of the tonneau in diagonally to make triangle on each side and in that way the seatbelts are reasonably free. I am also experimenting with a bungee cord stretched across the car behind the seats and hooked into the hood frame. In that way the tonneau can be supported by the cord and then dropped down behind the seats leaving the luggage space covered.

I have decided that the tonneau cover is best if the side screens are off but the hood cover is best when they are on.

The tonneau is, I assume, an extra rather than standard equipment?

A few years ago I used to own an XKR convertible which had, from memory, a captive hood cover with pop off studs. So I got used to using this system regularly as it was a daily driver.
