Ian,
You are reluctant to address his words from the Mog article. But that is where this thread started. Can we return there?
"If you fit a non-genuine part that damages the vehicle- your warranty is voided." MOG magazine
versus
"The warranty does not apply to defects arising from the fitting of parts NOT made or approved by Company." older manual
They do not mean the same to me. Do they to you?
Dan I've never argued that the warranty wording & the magazine article are the same, merely that the two versions of the warranty are the same. I won't comment on the magazine article, 'cause I haven't read it, but the pieces of text quoted here would suggest that that Mr Whitworth is going beyond the warranty as stated in the handbook. Again I say "Given the choice, I'd put my money on the warranty statement in the handbook rather than a magazine article" Ian

To me it is the same thing in different words. One of the reasons I opted to have the factory (or at least the Aero Racing department) fit their exhaust system and the GAZ shocks. Both have to be OK where warranty is concerned.

Dan I can't quite see the importance of this. However the magazine article implies that fitting non approved parts will void the warranty. Fairly normal. The handbook seems to be saying that defects caused by fitting non Morgan parts are not covered by the warranty. (ie will void the warranty). Both statements are remarkably similar, the manual being slightly more specific. As previously discussed, if you a fit a non Morgan wing mirror and your engine explodes, any court in the land would uphold your warranty. If you fit a non Morgan fuel injection system and your engine explodes, you're screwed. You posted my exact thoughts, so need for me to reiterate what you've said, other than to add that I interpreted the article and warranty book in the same manner.

Though the manuals make more sense, car warranties are governed by legislation, not manufacturers. I found the full MOG article with the mogwire link. If it is read against the manual versions, they do say different things. But the goal of the article seems to be to scare buyers into confining their add-on buying to Morgan. That's the punchline. Yet surely if you damage your car installing an Aero Racing product, they will void that part of the warranty as well. DanD

Quite frankly most of what is spouted on Mogwire is sensationalist and geared at stirring doubt and problems towards MMC. I think between the sensible heads here the basis and wording is both agreed upon and conforms to the usually understood maxim of warranty's and non OEM items and what happens if they have a detrimental effect. Case closed?
As for Mogwire, Katoen and Dan D referring to Richard Whitworth as "whitworth", am I the only one that finds that a tad disrespectful and rude?
Cheers

Errr, Tim Whitworth?? I'd have liked his 4/4 Sport - black/tan, which Morgan developed the Track Day Pack on... Got some of it somewhere. Cheers,

In the last three years I've bought three Morgans, one (new) from a franchised dealer and two (one new, one 10 months old) from MMC, and I can honestly say I've never had a quibble over warranty work, in fact Mark Baldwin, Service Manager bends over backwards to give 100% satisfaction and I wouldn't expect any change of wording on the warranty to alter this commendable approach. What the reported change in wording will do though is give MMC an additional get out clause for the small minority of customers who abuse the system or refuse to be satisfied come what may.

Are you referring to all the posters with cracked windscreens? I joined to search the messages and find if there is a way to get them replaced under warranty. DanD

Mr. Boshly, The name given in the MOG magazine article is Tim, not Richard Whitworth. Are you referring to the same person? What is the correct UK form of address for someone named Whitworth? In the States, we even call our President and war heros by their last name. It is not disrepectful or rude here. Other than that, I cannot agree with your comments. But you are the moderator. If you want the case closed, I will not add or respond further on it. Dan Quite frankly most of what is spouted on Mogwire is sensationalist and geared at stirring doubt and problems towards MMC.
