Hi smile

When driving my my Moggie, I always watch for the oil pressure needle to drop, before going into the "enthusiastic modus" woohoo

The needle usually starts at 5 bar, with a cold engine, to settle at about 1.5 to 2 when the oil is hot. (why only, does every car have a water temperature indicator, instead of oil temperature, which really tells you, that the engine is warm enough...)

Anyway... the other day, I noticed an oil pressure reading of around 1 while driving, and almost zero on idle. Very scary...

After an hour or two cool down, it had a reading of 3. The next day, same procedure, 3 at starting. Being confident, that the oil pump is OK, (because if not, there would be no pressure at all) I took it for a spin.

The behavior of the oil pressure gauge now is exactly the same as used it to be, only 2 bars lower.

My verification of the oil pressure switch revealed some oil on it. I suppose, that there's a little leak in the switch "housing" that causes some pressure loss in it, which results in a false reading.

Anyone out there with a similar experience?

Sunny greetings,
Ivo

I've got the reverse! The moment I fire up, the OPG goes off the scale and stays there! My engine is the 2.0 Duratec with 9400 on the clock - I'm assuming that the guage is up the spout...comments, anyone?

My first 4/4 Sport had a leak from the oil pressure tapping on the back of the cylinder head. The brass fitting has a taper thread and if over tightened will snap like a carrot carrot - if the fitting is leaking unscrew carefully (you can shear it off unscrewing as well as tightening ) clean the threads and replace with a smear of gasket grade silicone sealant, tighten gingerly!

If the switch is leaking then it will probably have to be replaced

When driving my new Plus 4 -12 some days ago suddenly i noticed that the rev counter showed higher revs than normal. Stopped and then idled at 1900 revs - so showing very much +1000 revs all over the register. Switched the ignition off and then started again - voila, rev counter back to normal... thinking Maybe it is trying to say that the running in is now finished - floor the pedal Tony!!! drive
