hi all, how do you strap down a morgan on wire wheels. due to all the water on the roads and the location of my new to me morgan I may need to collect on my trailer. but I have never straped down a morgan before, what are the best points at the front for the straps. and i take it over the rear axle is ok for the rear. michael

When I sold my TR2 to Italy, they strap the car on the front-and rear wheels. That was it. And, it arrived without problem.

Wheel straps - a loop over the tyre.

I use what is called a "RAC strap" by the recovery trade on the front wheels. This is a loop over the tyre, with hold down hooks front and rear, and a ratchet at the rear. So the front of the car is held in place, and located front and rear.

You can get away with simple ratchet straps on the front, but an "RAC" type is a lot more secure.

The rear on a four wheeler, I use simple ratchet strap set to pull the wheel forwards. A three wheeler is dead light at the back and a simple light strap suffices.

Very important, cars move. Stop and check the retaining straps tightness after about 3 miles. You'll often be surprised at how much looser the trailed car has become. Always check your load security when you stop for fuel etc.

Addendum

See this You Tube video for what I call the RAC strap.

I personally though put it on the front of a Morgan. You don't in my opinion need 4, but it wouldn't hurt.

When I was doing commercial recovery I used one on each wheel. Car definitely wasn't going anywhere then!

But - ALWAYS recheck after a few miles, as Martyn says... smile

I've seen a Roller/Bentley buried in the tailgate of a Range Rover where the trailered vehicle was not tied down properly and rolled forward off the trailer shocked2

Having moved a couple of hundred cars by trailer I agree that 4 wheel straps (loop over the tyre type) is a reliable solution - up to and including transporting 2.7 ton Range Rovers. The list included several Morgans collected new from the factory for our local dealer, also some taken/collected to/from Scotland and Germany.

Must echo the need to check, and recheck, tightness of straps and avoid what I found to be the worst enemy of all, which is to be in any sort of a hurry when loading or towing!

thanks chaps, I must be going soft in the head, years ago I picked up a set of loop straps for my old trailer that I have used a hundred times, yet forgot I owned them and had to ask how to do something i have done 100,s of times over the years, at 55 i think my brain as gone soft.
