So MMC have just started advertising 0% finance, for a new Plus Four!

If we're talking say, 40 grand for two years? Just buy a Trad for 40 grand and keep it.

What am I missing?

The glory days of Morgans holding or even appreciating in value and selling relatively quickly are I am afraid long gone. The value of owning a Morgan today is to enjoy it and drive it til you no longer can and then smile remembering those wonderful times as it goes to wherever it goes at whatever price you were able to obtain.

Morgan in the business of making and selling new cars . It doesn’t matter how, it’s just an ultimate goal.

Making a margin on a second hand Morgan is priority two, as it’s been a part ex for a new CX or second hand CX.

Couple of hundred grand on the factory tours would also be a priority as seems money for old rope with servicing definitely being a good revenue earner for those of us that dislike pissing about with grease, glue, and double sided draft excluder tape.

You guys who have kept your Trads forever, and don’t use factory or main dealers for service are of absolutely zero interest to Morgan, and why should you be?

I have a CX because the Trad I had was tragic. I don’t care about residuals, and if second hand prices bomb, good. It means a more affordable CX for all.

Also, I wouldn’t use my own cash and pay the whole price of it into a depreciating asset on the first day of ownership. My money can be used to earn more money elsewhere. So depending on circumstances, the deal will suit many people.

It’s no different to buying a £400,000 combine harvester! £50k down , 25k a year for two years, option to buy, but sod that cos out of warranty and free yearly service offer gone. Roll out another brand new fixed cost machine. 100 % write down allowance on full price of combine also.

Loads of CX cars sold on PCP with a Guaranteed future value of £45,000 at 30,000 miles at 3 years old. Hand it back and walk away, or use residential as pix on next one. It’s what ever suits.

Also, it’s was said on here that there will always be a market for a trad buyer. Your trad 30 years time. Who is going to be buying and driving them. I’ve just asked 3 well brought up, car, bike, tractor, and V8 Scania loving teenagers sat in my kitchen what they think. They are rolling around on the floor with laughter 🤷‍♂️

There are plenty of people with lots of money that can and will continue to buy Morgan’s. The concept of this offer at current moment is nothing new , it’s been around for years on cars , Plant machinery and motorbikes. It doesn’t smack as desperation at all.
Go to the factory and look at the updates that have been done, new cafe, sales area and showroom , shop update, building work going on at side of service buildings.I’m sure deep down in some perverse way, a lot of people would love Morgan to go bust so they can say I told you so, and moan on even more on this site.

I’m 52, so be 82 in 30 years time. I hope Morgan have a big modern new building to work out of by then. They have ditched the bit of old ash, and the old factory is a selling centre and continuing tourist attraction for factory tours of how it used to be. Keep the progress, new ideas , new shapes , different engines or electrical propulsion ideas coming. Because if they where still making a trad, no youthful middle agers would be buying them.

Of course nothing taken personal Jon, we can all just state what’s on our minds, say what we like.

Maybe, I’m just in a cynical mood , having probably spent millions on lorries and farm equipment, hundreds of thousands on modes of transport, I can’t think of a single firm / manufacturer who gives a toss about you once the deal is done and you have taken delivery of your vehicle.

What do you think Morgan should do for you/ me / us. ?

The New owners of Morgan Motor Company aren’t grateful because you / we / me have bought from them in past. It’s past history isn’t it? They want the next killer deal!

I changed to CX last July. Swopped ( at a cost !) from trad Plus8 to auto Plus Four.
The 8 was a great car. 2002 model and running well. I enjoyed hands-on and did good miles. 2022 was the last long trip. Windermere and Scotland doing 3000+ miles. One rad fan fuse blew but otherwise faultless.
My thoughts went to projects to keep the car running and a list made. Mechanically not much, respeay desirable, interior spruceing up.
I’d been looking at the CX but waiting for the problems to emerge and be solved. It’s a Morgan after all. The delay proved a good move!
In early 2023 we visited Berrybrook and had a test drive . Liked the car but an early manual andI wanted to try an auto.
Looked at financing it and a slight delay loomed so put on the back burner.
Mid year mrs sospan was keen to try one. Did a test of an auto, both liked it, finance ok by this time so deal done. Pre-built not specc for factory build but it fitted our needs/wants. Absolutely no regrets. One minor warranty job done ( new pcb for gauges when the original failed) 6k miles on the clock after another Windermere/Scotland trip plus others.
Other than basic routine stuff post warranty the car is future-proofing my ownership with less hands-on needs.
I have always spent a lot of time working on cars but these days the fun is waning. I want more time to drive instead of allocating garage time. I can see the Plus Four seeing me out.
The auto is excellent. The paddles fun, Sport/Sport+ fun. Economy ( mainly in auto) excellent. Insurance not bad, VED not the best but over time will drop.
I keep it taxed not SORN as I can pop out if I want to on decent weather days. Run with others planned for St David’s Day next week. Off to St David’s (where else!) so nice run across Pembrokeshire.

As an old owner in my 70s - 41 years for my one and only 1980 +8. Cost me £6k in 1983. I have no interest in a CX, mine is fine and just love driving it. Currently on 260k miles. But my fear is they will go bust, I don't believe there is a buoyant market for £100k+ new ones regardless of financing options and £65k at 2-3 years. It smacks of desperation.
If I want a modern seriously fast drive then I take out my 911 turbo, admittedly old, but cost far less than a new CX.

This is an interesting thread.

On the topic of the current MMC, one just needs to look back when Porsche was about to launch the Cayenne. The Porsche fan and customer base cried foul and repeated much of what is being said here. Look at Porsche now.

The same can be said for Bentley when VW bought them and the first GT was launched. The customer base at that time didn't understand it but boy oh boy, Bentley rose from the ashes and is what it is today on that major shift in their product offer. Ditto for the Bentayga.

In regards to the current finance offer, I am struggling to understand why so many are viewing it as a negative or as mentioned above, find holes in it. If MMC don't drum up sales, cater to those who are willing to pony up the price of a CX, then your beloved brand will go bust. it's that simple.

Thank goodness for that or Morgan would not be in existence.

Over here at our local Cars and Coffee events we have a contingent of "Traditional" older Ford Mustang owners who bring their 1960s Pony Cars and a younger contingent who call in with their modern Mustangs that apart from some semblance of style and the badge are nothing like the "Traditional". The brand continues with a loyal young following who used the purchasing options provided by Ford, they do not want to do the things the older generation do with their cars but feel part of Ford and the Mustang Brand. I hope that Morgan can achieve the same.
