Surely I can’t be the only person who dislikes snow. Sure it looks very pretty for a few hours and it’s nice to play about making snowmen. But once the ‘fun’ is over it’s just a series of problems and disruptions. I need to take the Golf in tomorrow but I may not be able to get onto the main road, my recycling should be collected but that’ll be cancelled as the drivers will be driving snowploughs, there’s already power cuts in my village and reports of fallen trees blocking streets. The sky dish has stopped working. Then there’s the days and days of slushy mess everywhere, closed schools, salty roads. The cat won’t go out and my old mum (92 years young) needs to get to the hospital 60 miles away on Wednesday. All in all - I don't like snow!
Ps It’s about 6 inches deep in my drive right now!

Lots of snow here - little more steady in the old GT as she can get a little tail happy in the wet/snow. However no chance of doing anything too stupid as most drivers seem to drive at 5mph when there's even the faintest whiff of snow. Added an extra 30 mins to my commute this morning.....
EDIT - every morning we get emailed the Cover list for the day, and the Cover Organiser always adds a little meme or phrase to lighten the gloom. Today it was:
"If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you’ll have less joy in your life but the same amount of snow"

"If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you’ll have less joy in your life but the same amount of snow" Obviously not a horse owner then. Two grumpy horses are in their stables today instead of nibbling the last of the autumn grass. My outdoor tasks are on hold and Mrs F is really grumpy. If being grumpy was an olympic sport then she would be a gold medalist when it snows!

I have been holding off on enabling the Christmas 'emojis' on TM but the snow is making me second guess my decision.
...a bit like Christmas carols, I feel they should be reserved for December!

It was fine in Bavaria but then we had the kit. The Ami 8 with skinny tyres was great, the Scimitar not so great in Zeven and the Hartz mountains. Likewise; when I owned a 2CV, that was also great to drive in snow. Coming upto date, our 2WD Fiat Panda Cross is also very good in slippery conditions. Narrow tyres, plenty of suspension travel and not too much power, makes it ideal. Other benefits include, nice and narrow for Devon lanes, simple controls and 45 to 50mpg. Bud 4/4 - Stanley

TalkMorgan ... stick to your guns Sir!! ... someone has to hold the line for sanity as we descend into a corporate hell of overlapping 'Retail Opportunities' ... December is plenty early enough to acknowledge the proximity of Christmas ... personally I don't start til December is in its twenties!! 🙂
K
Ps.. and then then it's only a half-hearted 'bah-humbug- attempt 🙂 +1 24th December would be soon enough for me! +2 Christmas is coming and the retailers are getting fat - please put a penny in the homeless hat

(,,,,,,,) And as far as my tires are concerned, I'm not fully compliant with the law. I drive the Morgan with summer tires even in winter. But I only drive when the roads are dry. Clemens don't worry! Then you are acting in accordance with the law! Quote from ADAC: There is no general winter tyre requirement in Germany, but instead a situational one. This means that in winter road conditions, i.e. black ice, slippery snow, slush, ice or frost, you are only allowed to drive with winter tyres.
Thanks … feel better now

Day 3 and the situation evolves in a predictable fashion. The bins still haven’t been collected and it now seems they won’t be either. The roads are truly filthy requiring windscreen washers every few minutes. The doctors surgery are short staffed as some staff can’t get in so appointments already delayed are being postponed. The cat refuses to go out and even when forced out comes straight back in! The tv aerial is working again but some homes in the hills are still without electricity. The forecast is ‘improving’ as we are due temperatures 10 degrees warmer by weekend. However storm ‘Bert’ will be bringing anything from 75 to 150mm of rain and 45 mph winds. Cracking!

As someone who associates thunder and lighning with the breaking of a period of hot humid weather in the Summer, it always seems odd to have them with sub-zero blizzards ... it's not hugely rare or some harbinger of Climate Doom, but it always makes me think "Hey Mother-Nature I'm already well impressed with torrents of hail crashing off my roof and bouncing back foot-high off the top of the Landy ... the Thunder and Lightning is just a bit unescessarily dramatic! ... don't waste it, save it to spice up some other day where there's nothing much going on" 🙂
Saying that watching the lightning flashes light up the snowy night landscape through the curtains of snow is pretty special ... and all the more so as we're pretty 'dark-skies' out here and get the full effect.
All in all I quite like a bit of snow.
