As of this January, I am finishing off Reclaiming Conversation and have started DaveW's book as well as Mr Aldrin's...

I'm currently reading the great science fiction classic.

Plowing my way through Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series of naval sailing adventures during the Napoleonic wars. Now on book 15 of 20.

Just finished this:

Mortimer and Whitehouse - Gone Fishing.

Good read and the potential source for yet more 🐠 🐟 puns!

For West Country fans from my son in Cornwall . Blame it on the Cider Roger Evans. A delightfully funny history of cider making and use told in true West Country fashion, almost as good as a trip out in the Plus 8 for smileability

Currently a book titled "Tinopolis" by John Edwarrds.
This is a history of tinplate production in my home town of Llanelli.
Llanelli was the world leader in tinplate production and still has Trostre works producing high quality tinplate.
One contributor is Cecil Harries who was the rolling mill manager at Dupirt Steel when I was a metallurgist there. It was an old works that developed from tinplate into steel manufacture rather than tinplate. Private company not British Steel.Now long gone after the Thatcher/MacGregor steel industry "rationalisation". Closed in 1979.
The Cec Harries chapter has a photo of a steam crane with crew that was still in use when I was there and it was VERY old, about 90 or more.
It also has a chapter of the Stamping Works where pots, pans and saucepans were made, hence the Sospan emblem for the town and rugby team and my posting name.
The only remnant is Trostre as heavy industry has gone. Area and street names still hark back to the industrial erabut very little physical evidence remains of the industry. Similar to the Swansea valley that was the world centre for copper production.
