That varies greatly by language 🙂
Here's an overview of **"car" / "wagen" in other languages**:

### Germanic languages

* **Dutch**: *de auto* → **masculine**
* **German**: *das Auto* → **neuter**
* **English**: *the car* → **no grammatical gender**
(sometimes "she" is used in affection, but not grammatically)
* **Swedish/Norwegian**: *bil* → **common** (no gender distinction)

### Romance languages

* **French**: *la voiture* → **feminine**
* **Spanish**: *el coche / el auto* → **masculine**
* **Italian**: *la macchina / l’auto* → **feminine**
* **Portuguese**: *o carro / o automóvel* → **masculine**
* **Romanian**: *mașină* → **feminine**

### Other languages

* **Russian**: *машина (masjina)* → **feminine**
* **Polish**: *samochód* → **masculine**
* **Arabic**: *سيارة (sayyāra)* → **feminine**
* **Hebrew**: *מכונית (mekhonit)* → **feminine**
* **Japanese**: *車 (kuruma)* → **no grammatical gender**
* **Chinese**: *汽车 (qìchē)* → **no grammatical gender**

💡 Fun fact: in languages With gender, that says **nothing** about "male or female" in the real world — it's purely grammar.

I'm thinking about calling mine "Mr M"...

Ships and boats have always had names ... likewise railway engines ... warplanes have not only been named but carried artworks of their lucky namesakes ... early cars were often named (especially racers.) ... I think with cars it tailed off with mass-production and cars becoming commonplace bland consumer goods with unsurprising reliability. Although mine isn't named (though it definitely bears the spirit of Ossie the workshop cat who saw it through it's resto lurking in there somewhere!) I'd say Morgans, almost solely amongst current offerings, have enough of the character and traits of pre-war motors to be worthy of a name if owners so choose 🙂

Taking a slightly whimsical and literary approach, maybe a Morgan is a 'they' - in the sense it embodies a little of all the souls of the people who assembled it. (Which sort of raises the question of can a Morgan be haunted ?)

In french a Morgan is feminine if it's a 4 wheeler as it's "une voiture, une automobile" and masculine if it's a 3 wheeler as it's "un cyclecar, un tricycle". tipshat

But the 4/4 is higher, less supple and slower, whereas the PlusFour is lower, wider at the rear and much faster......, so I think a mixed double......! love laugh2

My bikes and cars have always been a 'she', as I can't see myself going for a fabulous ride on anything with a male pronoun. Not that I have a problem with those that do, it's just not my thing.

My preferred pronouns are It/That

A Morgan has to be female, how can anything so cantankerous be male?
