When I ordered my Roadster there was some alluding to the engine being a wolf in sheeps clothing. Its certainly smooth, flexible and quiet at the running in speeds I have experienced so far, with a pleasant subdued buz as revs increase. Ventured up to a modest 4000 rpm the other day though and couldn't believe the sudden change in sound as I let the wolf escape. It reminded me of the mechanically operated baffle bypass sometimes fitted to US hotrods. Put it down initially to a carefully engineered resonance from those chunky tail pipes, but now guessing its the variable cam timing kicking in. No complaints but the sudden change surprised me - guess I can expect this to the red line

Yup, that's the one..! It's like having two engines for the price of one, and the devil may care after that.. Just be careful that you're straight and on even ground when you hit that point with intent, because it really does try and ripple the tarmac with the back wheels. Any hint of damp or white lines and it's a handful. But when you do...ooooh..!

Do take care out there I still have that image of the Roadster about 50 metres into a ploughed field having demolished a fence on the way, Craig posted it earlier in the year. Like the V8's they are very lively in the wet.

When I first got mine it had old tyres & on a damp road with a little diesel on it I did a 360 skid accelerating away too fast / early from a roundabout.
New tyres were fitted & the grin remains.

If you aren't leaving number eleven's on the road and some bemused onlookers from the cloud of smoke, then you haven't pressed the pedal fast enough yet.

Apologies if this is common knowledge but I learn't a little more about this engine today from technician Dan at KH. Anyone who has driven the 3.7 Roadster may have noticed that throttle response is slow when taking your foot off, such that revs are held onto a tad too long. This manifests as an undesirable kick when up shifting anything other than slowly, especially with the wider ratio's I thought it was just a characteristic you had to learn to live with but apparently its a spin off of ECU mapping for the automatic version of the Mustang. MMC are aware and have corrected by re-mapping on ARV6 but as this messes with emissions have not offered it to standard Roadster owners. Dan is working on being able to offer this tweak in the future

Thanks Simon. I should have said that Dan is hoping to unlock ECU and correct the throttle lag on run down, not offer the ARV6 mapping

Ah, THAT's why, then. Well done, Richard.
My auto 340i does that in comfort mode, but not in sport, so it must be possible to alter the mapping. We all know how complicated electronics can get though, and I've heard great things of Dan, so I wait with breath bated..!
