I think that coloured wheels (especially the more traditional width rimmed wheel)look great....more characterful.
I'm surprised more people don't explore the possibilities of coloured wheels.

One of the members at Gaydon meeting had a blue 4 seater with lovely blue painted wheels. Very nice.

Old Bentleys always look great with green wires and are one of the few cars which look delicious in racing green.
A green Morgan with green wheels would look good actually.
In the good old days the grille and wheels usually matched the upholstery - prewar MG's being a good example.
