4/4 Series II Restoration Progress
Here are a few images of the progress of the 4/4 Series II for those who are mildly interested.
Until I sell one car (1970 Royale RP3 FF1600 - anyone interested??) I'm attempting to keep the car reasonably complete and on its wheels rather than reducing the car to a pile of bits.
The rear of the bodyframe is rather rotten; not helped by an accident in the early years of its life and inexpert repair by RAF fitters when the car resided in Cyprus evidenced by the use of aircraft spec fasteners. The rear deck was held in place only by the hood straps and spare wheel!
The fuel tank is not moth-eaten but has a loose baffleplate so will need a side panel removed and the offending baffle soldered back in position. I may add a couple more baffles just in case I get the chance to enter the car in competitive events.
I've repaired and restored the ash parcel shelf frame and the spare wheel frame; the purpose behind this is to retain some of the original car but also provide datum measurements for the width of the new body.
I've made up new handbrake linkages and also a pair of battery mountings in 1/4" stainless steel.
Instruments have been cleaned and I'm attempting to source a couple of cream Lucas switches. eBay has been rather useful.
So nothing major to report but progress none-the-less!

Is the Morgan the only "modern" car where the skills of a cabinet maker are as important as the skills of a mechanic?
Looking as if the road to recovery is close, if not actually underway.
I'm very spoilt, I have a 2014 car that is kept warm and dry and has coachwork that was dipped in preservative. I'll be beyond repair before Tarka needs attention!

Just as a side note the 1938 series 1 that needed full restoration.Which was sold at Auction in North Wales last year for something like 25 k . Is being restored locally. The buyer is out sourcing the restoration.Should be a nice car when finished

I can't see a decent restoration coming much less than £17k and that combined with the auction sale price makes for one very expensive Series 1.
The restoration of my Series 2 is only made economic by virtue of the fact that I'm happy to do much of the work myself and the non-existant purchase price.
