Ecoboost fitting finished
Two litre Ecoboost (250-280 bhp) engine now fitted and plumbed into the Plus 4. It goes off to have the new ECU fitted and programmed in January. No major problems but tig welding skills for exhaust fabrication useful.

Excellent job and choice of engine. I hope the mapping goes well. Should do as it is a “ normal “ production engine. The on-road performance should be stunning in a Morgan. The expected torque characteristics will make the car a peach to drive in a light car. I assume the mapping will be initially done on a Dyno set up? A video beckons!

That looks very good - very much the Alsatian’s accoutrements.

I hope it all went smoothly, it looks as if it did? It will be really interesting to hear your comments on the new engine on road test.
Was there any reason you chose the 2 litre Ecoboost instead of the more powerfull and torquier 2.3 Ecoboost?

Hi Paul, There,s a number of reasons: the torque of the 2.3 motor would require a stronger and heavier gearbox. The lovely 5-speed Mazda box is a bit marginal even for the 2.0 Litre and will have to be treated with some mechanical sympathy in the lower ratios. Also I was able to source a relatively cheap 2.0 litre Ecoboost, hot tested and complete with a loom. The 2.3 unit is a lot more expensive. I know a Ford dealer who has five new two litre Ecoboosts for about £4K each. Cheers

"200bhp = Ecoboost"
err actually 250bhp as standard as fitted to a Focus ST with twice the torque of the rather rough n/a GDI unit. In the Morgan smooth torque low down is of more interest than top end power. Having said that we may be looking at more than the standard 250 with our efficient front-mounted intercooler without any hike in turbo boost. Apologies Griffo , my mistake , very different figure indeed than a GDi !!!!

£2.8k?? That is cheap! That'll give me something to think about over Christmas. Thank you Peter.

"A kit for Christmas or a new year wish"
It is the intention to offer a kit. The main components will be the modified engine harness (on exchange) and the re-mapped ECU which will of course interface perfectly with the Plus 4 "body control" ecu so all the instruments, warnings lights, fuel pump and fan work as per standard. All that will have to await exhaustive rolling road and road testing on the guinea pig car (my 2014 GDI Plus 4). Several GDI owners have expressed interest but I'm afraid you'll have to be a bit patient.
