Aston Martin Cygnet
During my walk to pick up a sandwich for lunch, I saw this new Aston Martin Cygnet. I wondered if it would look better in the metal than in the press shots; in my humble opinion, it did not. Perhaps it was the colour but it looked like an odious little econo-box which has been burdened with a Max Power bodykit, in the hopes of making it look like a mini Vanquish. I know they need to reduce the average CO2 in the Aston range but was this the only way?

It's based on a Toyota IQ, which is hideous. Not an Aygo. AM needed to get their average emissions down to avoid being penalised under EU law, which is as ridiculous in this context (applied to a manufacturer of high performance cars) as was the straight banana nonsense. A manufacturer whose range encompasses small, medium, and large cars may be able to meet the requirement. Do we expect the same from Ferrari, etc?

When this topic was first posted I genuinely thought it was a Photoshopped wind-up. What are they thinking? Tragic

As I said at the start, this just seems like a petrol-Frankenstein nightmare. Simon: what's happening with the order that you had for one of them?

As I said at the start, this just seems like a petrol-Frankenstein nightmare. Simon: what's happening with the order that you had for one of them? I think you're getting confused in your old age, that was you! After disappearing for a day, it is back there today and I took another look at it. Even the interior doesn't look special (which was supposed to be the high point of the car). The Cygnet actually manages to make the Brabus Smart 4/2 look like good value and a better designed, crafted and executed concept. I remember thinking the project could be an interesting one, then being concerned when they released early teasers, leading to genuine disbelief when they announced the MSRP and lastly stunned disappointment when they previewed the finished product. I know we should be mindful of judging the present on past victories and the halo effects they cast; however, it is difficult to reconcile present day Aston Martin with the company who produced the DB5, DB4GT and the V8 Series (up until 1989). This, imho, is not progress. It is a cynical attempt to cash in on the brand whilst justifying it with Eco legislation.

That was hard work Brian but perseverance does pay dividends So, we've established you both have plenty of bad taste to go with your known good taste of course. Erm, didn't you both own Mitsubishi icars as well at some stage
Cheers

Yep, having you as a friend proves that! Now, at the risk of being a pedant, let me explain... Letter of Intent = "I haven't seen the vehicle but I like the concept of a small, premium, car. If you don't make a mess of it, I would like the opportunity to purchase one." Order = "I have seen the cock-up you have made of a good concept and would like to purchase this vehicle." Follow on from the above: - Me = letter of intent to local dealer at concept stage Brian = order to the Big Cheese at Aston after seeing the press shots (and I believe the car at Geneva 2010?)
