Finally saw one! 30 years ago, I lusted after one of these, never had enough money to buy one and they weren’t popular so they disappeared from memory.

Should have silver wheels though.

As if by magic, see, I told you they were interesting!

The 33 was our 4th Alfa.. the one we kept the longest,10 years.
I'd love to drive one again, or would that spoil the dream?

Another former Alfa 33 owner here. I swapped a TR7 for it and I recall the 33 as very enjoyable to drive despite being a lowly 1300 version. A wayward oil drum at Oulton Park damaged the front wing and the car had to wait for repairs as I was changing job, home and region at the time, but it didn't rust in the meantime! No reliability issues either and I only sold it when I got my first company car.

Another quip on the AlfaSud:

The Alfasud had to go fast - it had to keep ahead of the rust clouds it produced.

Never really took to the 33 but I had a Alfasud1.5TI as a company car in 78 for about 4 years and 60K miles.
Nice car loads of room for its size, went and cornered well but any hint of moisture in the air and the thing wouldn't start - and that was from brand new.
I think the XR3i ended their reign as a possible rival to hot Golf & Escorts.
Despite the power increasing supposedly from 85 to 105hp they couldn't live with the Ford/VW.

Swapped it for a wedge shaped 1.8 Giulietta in about 82 as the engine was worn out (rust funny enough was not that bad).
The twin cam 1.8 engine sounded wonderful but it wasn't very fast in a largish saloon and the gear change was like waving a flagpole in Wembley stadium.
It was quirky though and full of character (a bit like a Morgan).

Ended up as a proper wedge after being center spot in a 6 car collision.

The Alfasud ti was/is if you can find one a great car - flat 4 engine where have flat fours gone ! handling was brilliant and would go to 60 in third or possibly 2nd ! If only they were about now !

Been there, done it, got the T shirt. Looks like we were at an "All Alfa Day" somewhere. "Freddie" the B.H. also ours.

10 years old, 100,000 miles and looking super.
We were handing it in to the dealer and collecting our new Alfa 145, which turned out to be a disappointment.

Although the 33 looked good and cost us nothing in repairs, other than a new water pump, the electrics were on their last legs, occasional rear light failures and the speedometer didn't work.

The young kid is Andrew, now 30 and over 6ft!

Wow Max5 that picture takes me back, my first Alfa was just such a car early 1.2 ti . Probably my favourite car looking back! Saw 180kph once well into the red in top gear it just used to sing . They actually handled a lot better than the later 33's being lighter and more hardcore in the running gear, (inboard discs etc) That was the start of many Alfa adventures for me from 60s Guilia saloon racing projects (Gorilla) through Alfettas and Giuliettas.Happy days when racing was a great deal cheaper than now in NZ.

Congratulations! That beast is the fastest SUV ever in Nurburgring… An amazing machine. I always loved Alfas. I got two: a 145 Montreal, with a faboulous 1600cc engine 16valves Twin Spark and amazing 120bhp for an atmospheric engine (that only the Honda Civic VTi exceded). Then changed it for a 147 Selespeed 2000cc 150bhp… another amazing machine. Both perfect cars without faults… And the style and design was light years away from the competition (IMHO).

I would consider again an Alfa Stelvio, probably this Quadrofoglio beast… but some extras I'm used to in my SUV are not even offered as an option in the Stelvio, which makes sad…
