I'd be a trifle careful with the soup analogy.
Volvo fell foul of that one under advertising standards, many years ago.
Guess it shows there are pedants everywhere!

Graham... Must have missed that one... Surely Volvo are far too wholesome to upset anyone.... Just put a last coat of red oxide on it... Will move on to the rear axle while that dries ready for its black topcoat...... Trying to keep the momentum up while I wait to hear from the carpenter that the Ash has arrived

The advert, IIRC, quoted the capacity of a 200 series Estate in number of tins of soup (volume wise). Some zealous person worked out the vehicle would be overweight - by one can of soup...

Quite surprising the tank is in such good condition, they’re not in the kindest location and good hear you have some creosote, that’ll come in handy for your wooden chassis

Very impressive Keith, I admire your tenacity and skill, reminds me of times past...sigh!

My old Morgan was stripped to almost the last nut and bolt by it`s Morgan enthusiast and car body shop owner (Kevin) in the 90`s, having been dragged out of a shed after lying for years unused and with very few miles on the clock. Kevin set about using his long term Morgan knowledge and motor trade skills to rebuild it in a way that some of the foibles Morgans may be renown for, might be reduced to some degree from reappearing quite as soon as may normally be expected. Kevin supplied detailed pics of the rebuild processes, the care and attention to detail and finishes utilised, which now form an important part of the history of my Morgan, perhaps something worth considering perhaps relative to your efforts.. if you have not already done so..?

The pic of your fuel tank reminded me of one of the pics Kevin gave me it was of his pretty young wife stripping the paint off the fuel tank.... For it seems she was into Morgans as much as was Kevin...(-: I suspect my old Morgan was caught before the tin worm has a chance to dig it`s teeth into anything, thus I think there was no welding or replacement of anything significant involved perhaps just paint stripping and preparations to coat with high gloss two pack lacquer carefully applied to chassis bulkheads, radiator fuel tank sump and much else, using stainless steel fixings in place to give a show finish to the extent it even won recognition in concours terms..(-:

Today, many years after Kevin rebuilt the old Mog,and with not as many miles covered since then, as it should have enjoyed sigh..! The old Mogs condition regardless of usage on the occasional rough road, is a testament to the effort Kevin invested in it, and those stainless fixings have been well appreciated when it was time to work on the old thing making the tasks a whole lot easier than might have otherwise been expected...

Rather a long ramble Keith, but intended as encouragement in this miserable weather, relative to your task in hand, and in the hope you will enjoy as many adventures and more that my dear lady and myself have enjoyed over the years in our old Morgan.. Being a confirmed Luddite I have great appreciation for the era of engineering in which your Morgan was created...and think that perhaps the 4/4 was perhaps the most balanced of the breed..?

Luddite.... Thanks for the encouraging thoughts..... Aways good to have..... Just a matter of moving bits from the 'greasy/rusty' pile to the 'checked/painted' pile until you run out!

Off to London for a few days R&R next week... When I get back I'll be working with the carpenter to make the last of the wood replacement sections.... Then comes the one bit that makes me nervous. ... Dummy build of pretty much the whole tub onto the chassis... Getting a decent fit from cowl to spare wheel of all the gaps (especially the sweep of the wings Vs the lower body curve)..... Never done a wood frame car before so slightly trepidatious.... However I tell myself it's just another three-dimensional logic problem.... So we shall see

Will continue to take pics as I go along... But a photographer I ain't! (never did trust a process that didn't involve a hammer at least somewhere)

PS.... Some pics of the car in action (presumably in the hands of Jamie Gibbon) would he fine to see... Have seen him wing the car up the hillclimb loads of times but don't have any pics

Long but productive day working with the carpenter yesterday ....result is all the last ash bits to replace the previous dodgy wood sections .....some complex shapes here but all do-able in an average woodshop. Will tack it all together with the original parts for a trial fit today and see how the frame matches up to the chassis/bulkhead. All go here!
