Supersonic Lighting jet wash

What better way to get freezing cold could there be than washing a jet first thing on a Sunday!

I had contact lenses in at the weekend, far better for outdoor activities but the downside, they’re not as sharp for reading.
Now I have my specs on and I can read my own posts, it seems I’ve managed to miss spell lightning every time.
The lighting jet is actually a far less impressive item, made in in China and available in all the crappy DIY stores😂

Good to see that XR749 is getting some care and attention. I have some history with that aircraft when it was with the Lightning Training Flight at RAF Binbrook in the 1980's.

Awesome picture planenut, one aspect which the photos don’t really show is how small the cockpit is, it must have been very uncomfortable
. Off the scale cool though.

I had the pleasure of working with Captain George Aird in the later stages of his aviation career, he eventually retired from commercial flying in the early 90's. This is the story and picture of him as a test pilot and his ejection from a Lightnng. An extremely modest man and very capable aviator

Concorde was amazing having had the chance to fly it to JFK once, when the afterburners kicked in the speed rocketed from mach .9 to 2 and the height for 30,000 to 52,000. The lightning is basically half the power and a seat. It must have been awesome. There is a preservation society at RAF Bentwaters with one and the cockpit is tiny.

The photo of it going straight up says it all.

Ewan, your bird features on this video - faster than Concorde and higher (88,000' 16 miles) than the U2 a quite remarkable bit of kit.

That’s a good video Rich, my son and I like the Mark Felton YouTube articles, we actually joked about him while we were washing it, humming the dour theme tune he uses, we didn’t realise he’d done one on that very aeroplane.

Nice picture, Clipper, I’d wash that one too but it’s a bit far for a Sunday morning jaunt!😂
