What better way to get freezing cold could there be than washing a jet first thing on a Sunday!

The chassis has moved on a lot since last you posted your lads project, all things considered, great progress.

Ewan, your pics of the Eclat brought back memories of Restoring my Elite a few decades back...I too had to have the chassis repaired as the "T" supporting the rear suspension was shot. One thing I might suggest is while you have it stripped, is to think of replacing the centrally mounted windscreen wiper drive, as mine was pretty well worn due to the strain it worked under driving that single large wiper blade. At the time as well as the teeth on the gearwheel being worn, the drive wire "teeth" were also worn, I cheated on that by rotating the drive wire connection 180 deg at the wiper motor, thus presenting the opposite side of the drive wire teeth to mesh with the new gearwheel in the final drive.

Given the weight of the side impact bars in the door, the drivers door sagged due to wear on the hinge mechanism. I cut a spiral in the pin, and drilled a hole in the tube of the hinge, tapped it and fitted a grease nipple in a location where it could be accessed with the door fully opened to apply grease to the hinge mechanism...

I also fitted a BOC blow back arrestor to the vacuum line feeding the headlamp lift, to restrict vacuum loss...

All great tips Luddite, especially the window wiper, I’ve heard that’s a nightmare to do. For the headlights, I think the plan was to convert to MX 5 motorised mechanisms, the original stuff is probably beyond saving, if we run out of money, we might just jam them up permanently 😁

About to embark on another Italian road trip beginning in Edinburgh, time to spare some we went to east fortune aerodrome, Lightning and friends aplenty, Concorde still amazes.

Been a long time since I was at East fortune back in the day when I was acting mechanic for a pal who raced m/cycles, never been to the aircraft museum, though having admitted to that, Concorde was still flying at the time...Though have been on the flight deck when it was in service... A wonderful flagship for Anglo French engineering

Also remember watching wartime video of the little rocket German fighter, if I remember correctly fuelling it was a risky two fuel process..? My spelling is bad at the best of times though the words used to identify the fuels sounded like Teeshdoff and Deeshtoff, the test pilot was a courageous lady indeed, in the film, it used a bogey for take off, which was left on the ground, and landed on it`s central skid on soft ground... Found it all quite amazing watching the film back in the late 60`s..

How can I remember that and not remember if I put sugar in my tee a few minutes previously... Sigh..! (-:

East Fortune is a good visit albeit, a bit of a niche interest these days, some of the presentations are so old, they’ve become nostalgic in their own way, ancient interactive displays and film features done in a time gone by.
