Neil, if I've understood your post correctly and you have 2mm of the thread still showing, could you try using the Dremel with a fine cutting disc to cut a slot in the top of it, then unscrew it with a small screw driver? May be less risky than the Dremel drill bit running off the screw head into the alloy panel? If you try this, I suggest it would be worth putting masking tape around the area to protect the paint work before starting. MZ.
