Lack of use will cause a battery to deteriorate rapidly. Unless you are starting the car and bringing the battery up to charge once a week it will fail in a couple of years unless you are very lucky. The one you had that lasted 6 years must have been of exceptionally good quality if it was allowed to go flat over winter.

When the car is not in use it is best to keep the battery charged in some way, either solar or some type of battery conditioner.
