Adding dry methanol/ethanol/propanol is a known way of dispersing a small amount of water in your car's fuel tank or system. Indeed you used to able to buy cans of it to dry out a fuel system. But when you added it, you were then supposed to go for a big run.

Used this way - for a small amount of water, it does work, but the problems arise when the mixture is not controlled, not in fuel that is then used, but sits in the tank over winter (or May if the current weather has anything to do with it).
