I heartily agree with all the other guys- go for it! I did about 2,000 miles (3,200 Kms) around France, after spectating at the Le Mans Classic and loved every bit of it. The worst thing about driving in France is coming back to British traffic!!!
Like Reg (lowebird) I used a soft bag on the rear carrier and had plenty of luggage capacity.
Make sure you post some pictures on the forum after you get back home.
