The painted cowl was a late amendment to my original spec after I saw a couple like it at the Factory. I think it makes the car look far meaner than it might have. Everything else is black, except the luggage rack, which Morgan wouldn't supply powder coated.

The car had been running absolutely great, varying in tone between a tractor and go cart, with lots of other sounds thrown in for good measure, but no whine from the bevel box or any other annoying or worrying noises. Even the bump steer wasn't anything quite as bad as I feared! I was living the dream enjoying our great British heatwave!

A small squeak developed from the back somewhere, but then we stopped for coffee and when we started off again no more squeak - everything normal.

A couple of miles down the road and suddenly a horrendous rattle from the rear, which I initially thought might have been a shredded tyre clattering against the bodywork. Checked underneath, everything fine with tyre and drive belt. Tried to drive on and it made a real harsh scraping noise as if, maybe the belt was rubbing against the mud guard, which it wasn't. The sound stopped if I dipped the clutch. Managed to limp to a pub car park and though about how to get home.

Having been recovered by Green Flag twice in the previous 4 days I was nervous about calling them again and being refused help. Suddenly remembered that the dealer mentioned Morgan Care and had my daughter and niece search www and my unread handbook for their number. Is there really a Morgan Rescue service? - as nothing could be found - only a number for the factory, which of course was on answer phone on a Sunday evening!

Called Green Flag, who sent a very nice mechanic who stripped out the seats and tunnel in his efforts to find the problem. He had me drive up and down the car park, with him in the passenger seat. This was a bit scary with the exposed propshaft right next to my hip. He concluded it was the bevel box, which was making the noise.

Its now hiding in disgrace in my garage, waiting for the dealer to collect.
