You don't have to buy one and keep it forever. It is a bit like houses, you buy one, keep and maintain it. You move to a newer one or different model. Also a bit like houses once you have joined the ladder it is unusual to ever choose to leave. I know we won't be without one now.
I took Maria to see a Mini at the dealership some time back and she just said "naa" but then she saw the demonstrator and went "that one". It did chose her at that point, it was just the right one. Having said that it totally stuffed the pricing discussion.
