I honestly don't think so, David.

Any rear-drive car, especially when equipped with lots of power and a locking LSD, can be a bit of a handful in the wet, but usually 4/4s are pretty docile in this regard, breaking away in a very controlled manner. I have no idea what caused IcePack's misfortune, for which he has my sympathy and commiseration, but my first thought was that the tyres were maybe a bit aged, or low in tread or at too high a pressure?
