The 3 pin connector is triangular with a rectangle below the triangle.
The '5' pin connector contains only 3 pins, the body is more oval with a flat base - two pins in the base area, one at the rounded top, with two holes in the middle area for extra pins.
Both connector types are on my car too, so I could connect to either...
