A substantial number of bevel boxes have been changed due to high noise levels and more than one has seized up.
It's also apparent that there are some anomalies regarding the oil type, level and even whether some cars have been delivered with little or no oil in the box.
If I was supplying the bevel boxes, they'd be shipped with a small amount of grease on the gears, with instructions to add the oil once installed in the car. I would not want to supply them with oil as in transit, the poor things might have the breather at the lowest point and consequently both make a mess and need refilling.
I sort of feel qualified to say that as I rebuilt my vintage bevel box with new shafts and bearings. I then set it up and so far, other than having chosen the wrong bearing for the input (wrong type of seal - works fine but leaks) no proper problems.
