Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I came across this whilst looking for something else.
On the Pre Delivey Inspection Checklist technical inspection item 31
"Rear drive belt tension ( 1/4 of a turn ) & clear of the tyre"
This may only be a quick check but will tell you if the the belt tension is of the right order.
