Just thought that I would look at the effect of RPI inflation on my own +8 which was bought from Allon White's in 1987. The new price was £17,453.
It was sold in 1995 for £17,500, but by then the RPI adjusted figure would have been £25,540. It was sold again in 1999 for £16,500 by which time the RPI adjusted figure from new was £28,330 (and from the £17,500 in 1995 was £19,410).
When I bought it in 2010 the RPI adjusted price from new was £38,290, and currently is about £43,000.
Conclusion appears to be that whilst no one has lost much in cash terms, there has been a real loss due to inflation.
