Gone are the days when if you saw a gritter out one would expect heavy snow. Here in Gloucestershire they salt even if there's a slightest risk of a bit of ice on the windscreen. Last year they started as early as October! The last was in April so that's a long time not taking ones favourite vehicle out for a spin.
I think one has to avoid driving on days where there is spray. For instance today it is bright and sunny. The roads are covered with ingrained salt after a week of frosts but I wouldn't hesitate going out in a special car or bike that has been protected with waxoil etc as the roads are bone dry.
As soon as any rain appears I agree best leave in the garage.
After reading this post I'll definitely be trying some ACF 50 out in aerosol form.
Reading the comments on this topic the non bright pack seems to be the best way to go. Shame as I love the full polished engine but at least it will save me a lot of money too.
