Both sound pieces of advice, make sure you can put them on by hand to make sure they don't get cross threaded.
With the eared spinners your best off with a copper / leather mallet. You can buy wooden protection frames, I had one for an old Jag I had and it lasted no time at all. Get a piece of hardwood and hold it in place, then give it a good thump
