I had an early S1 back in 1967/68, cost me £375, it had been painted purple, and I could see the road going past under my legs, it was so rotten. Oh, yes the othere thing was that when sitting with a foot on the brake pedal it would sink fairly rapidly to the floor - a bit like my 2014 4 seater Plus 4 before Newtown fitted a new master cylinder and vacum unit under warranty! I ended up doing a swap plus a bit of cash for a beautiful 970 Cooper S, which I then had a lot of fun with for the next 6 months before selling it on. That was a mistake, wasn't it?
I'm always amazed how little room there is inside E types, certainly on early convertables.
