Thanks Dave,the nut is so far down the splined hub that it's difficult to get a measurement.I've tried 32mm and 1 1/4 in.,no luck but I'm not sure even if I have got the correct size that the socket walls will be thin enough to fit between the nut and the hub.Good advice on the axle breather,I'm checking that next and hoping to find it's blocked!
