The "last real sports car"? Nonsense. There are loads of alternatives. The difficult bit is deciding which one. I'll give you a few starting at the Morgan price and going up, open cars only.

911
boxter sportster
ferrari 430 and 360
F type
vantage V8
soon to be announced Lotus Evora roadster

I have tested all bar the Evora and the 430 an F type were memorable. The 911 is a really good true sports car but if anything too good and competent. And you will lose money on it faster than you would do marrying a Playboy bunny.

If you want cheaper then you could do a lot worse than a Mazda MX5

If you just want a car with a bit of poke then the range of fast hatchbacks is huge. No 1 son has a BMW M1 - 1400 kg 325 bhp and it goes like the proverbial. I wouldnt admit it to no 1 but I suspect its faster than my Elise R. And by all accounts there are faster Renaults and Fords. Ye gods!

Finally you could always go "hairdresser - BMW Z4, Merc SL or even (yuk) a TT.

In terms of reliable comfortable cars with ridiculous levels of performance I reckon we are in a never to be repeated decade. After this come the Dysons on wheels.

Ah Howard you do know how to win friends and influence people stirpot
