yes spark plug cap seperation is something that happens to me all the time. sometimes multiple times on a single journey. It is bloudy loud when it happens because the fuel detonates in the exhaust. The engine can only just keep going when only one cylinder is firing.
It is always the best thing to check when a car breaks down.
