Interestingly I think the centa unit does act as a progressive damper as well as a cushion drive. To be honest I am not sure what a mechanical compensator is.
If you look at the pics of the centa it does have cam like cut outs in both sections. This allows the rubber rollers to progressively transfer power in much the same way as the three lobe metal to metal unit that was fitted in the early days. The original unit transfered excess power from a rotary motion to a longitudinal movement along a splined shaft. Personally I think it was and is a nasty system that doesnt work satisfactorily on the Harley, let alone the Morgan. Also needs of lubrication.
I am not convinced that any system could remove high frequency torque spikes.
Centa are a very well respected comapny that build torque dampers( compensators) for boat drives. They are fitted in drives on ribs to ferries.
The three wheeler has been transformed by this drive unit.
Only downside is a rumble at 2500 rpm. Hell of a lot beeter than the horrendous knocking we had before.
