There are little pieces of metal that hold the fasteners in place and when you add the G56 spring kit the tension from the springs can pop the original clips off. The larger circlips replace the original retaining clips and don't slip off.
However I had a couple of the original wire clips come off even before I fitted the G56 spring kit.
Time will tell whether the E clips will last any longer but they feel pretty secure so far.
