My daughter, who is 18, persuaded someone yesterday, who was sitting on the rails at Kingston station waiting for a fast train, not to kill herself. Talked her off the rails by saying she would sit with her and talk to her - which she did. Nobody else did anything- quite a shock for her.

That is really an amazing and caring reaction Neil, as others have said you must be so proud of her.


I am - I think it's just been a little difficult to process, particularly for her.

The station staff were shouting at the girl on the rails about messing up people's train journeys - my daughter, on the other hand, was talking to her about wanting to live and that she'd listen to her problems if she got off the rails.

It could have been the most terrible scene - fortunately it wasn't.
